Nick Sturge – Director, Engine Shed
Nick is responsible for the direction and operation of Engine Shed and overseeing the Bristol SETsquared Centre. His role involves developing Engine Shed as the University’s presence in the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone contributing to long-term, sustainable & inclusive economic growth in the City-region.
Nick is South West Regional Chairman for Institute of Directors and a member of IoD Council, it’s governing body.
He received a first class degree in Electronics with Computing Science and worked in several medical electronics companies before joining Inmos in 1990. Together with 7 colleagues, he spun out Motion Media Technology from Inmos in 1993, and helped grow the business through IPO, selling into 40 countries and peaking at 125 employees across the UK and US. The market of Motion Media’s videophones stalled after 9/11 and after downsizing the company over 2 years, Motion Media merged into what is now SCOTTY Group PLC. Nick left SCOTTY in 2004 and after some consulting work, joined SETsquared, becoming centre director in 2006.
Nick also chaired the South West Science Park and Incubator Leaders Forum and sits on the Business Advisory, Hi-Tech Sector and SME Business Support Groups of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership.
